  • 1 bag kale
  • 1 tblspn coconut oil or clarified butter
  • Garlic powder/cayenne or other ground spices, eg cinnamon for a sweeter taste.
  • Celtic sea salt.
  1. Heat the oven to 190°C/375°F, gas mark 5.
  2. Rinse the kale then dry it as much as possible with a tea towel or kitchen paper.  Put it into a large mixing bowl.
  3. Just melt the coconut oil or butter then pour this over the kale and rub it all over with your fingers.  Alternatively, you could just smear the coconut/butter on your fingers and rub it into the kale.
  4. Spread the kale over a large baking tray.  You will probably have to use 2 trays, since it is better for the kale to be loosely spaced out rather than crammed in.  Scrape the salt over and sprinkle any flavourings used.
  5. Bung into the oven and bake for 10 – 15 mins, checking very regularly to catch the kale at optimum crispiness, but before burniness happens.
  6. Hopefully even the children will like these crisps.  ‘Don’t eat up all those greens!’
  7. Hurrah, guilt free crisps.
Ornamental kale. The must have container plant for the winter. More exciting than your winter pansies.
