Are high intensity workouts good for you? They certainly give a huge high and will lead to weight loss.  Unfortunately for many they also cause injury.  If you lead these classes, insurance is extremely expensive – not surprising, really.

If we are regularly doing reactive sports like football, netball, mountain biking or competitive fell running, and we are completely injury free, then there is a high chance we’ll be able to take part in the local boot camp without injury because our vision, balance, co-oordination and strength are able to cope with the demands of our sport – that said, people who enjoy these reactive sports would rather do those than ten burpees, fifty two squats and a bit of a jiggle with a skipping rope.

In reality, the people who join the local HIT training squad have been doing either very little exercise or exercise with low reactive demands.  They are desperate to shed a few pounds and trim up.  In order to survive the dynamic movements asked of them they do the very best they can, which results in either horrible movement patterns or injury – refer to the above video.

Yes, high intensity work outs are good for you – they are extremely good for you. But getting yourself ready to be able to benefit from these classes is even better for you.
